Buried in breathtaking photos
Imagine having a company credit card burning a hole in your pocket, a lot of BIG blank walls crying out for photos, and 300 million to choose from. :-)
I never knew I could love shopping so much.
I bought some 72-inch prints, a 5×10 foot print, and we’re now making one that’s 72×180 inches.
I took some of the ones we’re printing and put them in a slideshow on SmugMug’s home page. Check it out.

Chris, that’s lotsa fun, making humongous prints. A couple questions…
–can you tell us some details about who prints these, pricing, turnaround, etc?
–when they’re put up on walls (Office, I presume, since they’re too big for home use? And unframed, since framing would be pretty expensive??), would you be able to take some photos of the posters in situ, to give us the sense of drama in their surroundings?
–any commens you have about the process for making extreme enlargements, which still look great when they’re blown up that big?

PS If the pricing is reasonable, this might be a fun/good form of fundraising activity, where a huge print could be auctioned for the benefit of a school/hospital/scouts/4-H/etc group. Sort of like a beef auction at the county fair!

Sorry to be slow in getting back. I’d heard good things about bigposters.com so I decided to give them a try. So far the customer service has been great. They’re breaking a 72×180 print into 3 72×60s for me, they do the gatorboard mounting with a wood frame behind to prevent warping and make hanging easy, etc.
Other suggestions welcome.

Something which I forgot to mention… what about trying a large “electronic-picture-frame” on those walls. I’ve been using such a frame, from the PhotoVu folks (www.photovu.com), and really like it. In fact, I liked it enough to make a donation of one of their frames to a local public library, where it’s near the circulation desk and looks great.
In fact, due to my prodding and Smugmug’s technical help, the PhotoVu wi-fi capability is able to show photos from Smug on its screen, which is lotsa fun. That would be a neat “feature” for the lobby, yes?, in which the “most popular” pics from Smug were rotated automagically on the screen in the lobby!
